Lawsuit Accuses Allied Universal Security Guards of Assault & Battery

Allied Universal Security was sued along with the White Memorial Medical Center after security guards at the medical center were involved in an unprovoked and brutal attack on hospital security. This resulted from a systemic failure by the hospital and its contracted security company to prevent excessive force, protect patrons, or provide post-incident care.

After one of Mendez & Sanchez’s clients, Armando Avalos, had received treatment for minor injuries at White Memorial, as he was conversing with the nurse, she summoned security to remove him from the premises. According to the complaint, multiple unidentified security officers forcibly removed Armando from the hospital lobby, assaulting and battering him in the process of this altercation. Once they were outside, Allied security guards ended up continuing to beat Mr. Avalos, as they repeatedly hurled racial epithets at him.

Armando’s attorneys are taking action and arguing that the security personnel struck, punched, grabbed, pushed, kicked, dragged, and slammed him to the ground, causing serious and permanent injuries, including facial fractures, lacerations, and contusions to his torso, face, and skull. He contends that the attack occurred without provocation or lawful justification. After the brutal attack, the defendants left him outside the hospital without providing or obtaining any medical assistance.

The lawsuit, which names two defendants, Allied Universal Security Services and White Memorial Medical Center alleging that they’re both liable for negligence and the actions of their employees and agents.

A hospital is a place where hurt people go to get care, not where they expect to be injured and brutalized by their caregivers,” said attorney Alex Guerrero. “Allied Universal Security has a long, well-known history of not only failing to protect people, but cause them harm. This case is about holding this billion-dollar corporation responsible for causing injuries instead of preventing them.

The case is Armando Avalos v. Allied Universal Security Services, White Memorial Medical Center, Los Angeles Superior Court, Case No. 23TCV26846.
